Privacy Policy

1. Controller
The Tech News Ltd., [REGISTERED ADDRESS], Tel Aviv, Israel, is the data controller. Our Data Protection Officer can be reached at privacy@technews.global. Our EU representative (Art. 27 GDPR): [EU REPRESENTATIVE].
2. What we collect
Account data: name, email, password (hashed — we never store it in clear text), organisation, role, profile image if you upload one. Usage data: pages and stories read, saved stories, alerts, search queries, time on page, approximate location from IP, device and browser data, referrer. Subscription data: plan, billing status and history; card details are processed by our payment provider and never stored by us. Communications: tips, corrections requests, support messages. Cookies and similar technologies: see the Cookie Policy. We do not intentionally collect special-category data and ask you not to send it.
3. Why we use it and on what legal basis
To provide the Service (contract): accounts, saved stories, alerts, PRO access, billing. To personalise (legitimate interest / consent where required): recommending stories, ordering THE 8:00 by your beats, remembering your language and theme. To communicate (consent for marketing; legitimate interest / contract for service messages). To measure and improve (legitimate interest): aggregated analytics, A/B tests, performance monitoring. To protect (legitimate interest / legal obligation): fraud prevention, security, abuse prevention, source protection. To comply with law (legal obligation): tax, accounting, lawful requests. Where we rely on legitimate interest we have balanced it against your rights; you may object at any time.
4. AI reporting agents and your data
Our AI agents write stories from public information, licensed data feeds and material provided by our newsroom. Reader data (what you read, save or search) is not used to train models and is not shared with model providers. When you send a tip, it may be triaged with automated tools under human supervision; confidential sources are handled only by named human editors. We do not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about you by automated means.
5. Sharing
Processors acting for us under contract: hosting (data centres in the EU and Israel), email delivery, payments, analytics, customer support, security. Group companies for internal administration. Professional advisers. Authorities where legally required — we resist over-broad requests and, where lawful, notify affected users. A buyer or successor in a merger or asset sale, subject to this policy. We do not sell personal data and do not share it with advertisers for cross-context behavioural advertising. Advertising on the Service, if any, is contextual.
6. International transfers
Data may be processed in Israel (recognised as adequate by the EU Commission), the EU/EEA, the UK and the US. Transfers outside the EEA/UK rely on adequacy decisions or Standard Contractual Clauses with supplementary measures. A copy of the safeguards is available on request.
7. Retention
Account data: for the life of the account and 12 months after closure, unless a longer period is required by law. Billing records: 7 years (tax law). Usage logs: 13 months, then aggregated or deleted. Security logs: 24 months. Tips and source material: as long as needed for journalism and legal defence, under our Source Protection policy. Marketing consent records: 5 years after withdrawal.
8. Your rights
Under the Israeli Privacy Protection Law and, where applicable, the GDPR/UK GDPR you may: access your data; correct it; delete it (right to be forgotten, subject to journalistic and legal exemptions); restrict or object to processing; receive a portable copy; withdraw consent at any time; and complain to a supervisory authority — in Israel the Privacy Protection Authority, in the EU your local DPA, in the UK the ICO. California residents have rights to know, delete, correct, and to opt out of sale/sharing (we do not sell or share) and not to be discriminated against for exercising rights. To exercise rights, use Account → Privacy or email privacy@technews.global. We respond within 30 days (45 under the CCPA), and may need to verify your identity.
9. Journalism exemption
Personal data processed for journalistic purposes — including in our stories, our people & companies database and our newsroom archive — is processed under the journalism exemptions of applicable law and the Israeli freedom of expression framework. Requests to remove or alter published stories are handled under our Corrections Policy, not as data subject deletion requests, except where the law requires otherwise.
10. Security
We use encryption in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest, hashed passwords, least-privilege access, audit logging, regular penetration testing and an incident response plan. Under the Israeli Data Security Regulations we maintain a database security procedure and, where required, notify the Privacy Protection Authority and affected users of serious breaches without undue delay (and within 72 hours under the GDPR).
11. Children
The Service is not directed to anyone under 18 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we will delete it.

13. Changes
We will post changes here and, for material changes, notify you by email or in-app at least 14 days before they take effect.
